1. Bucyrus RH400 – Bucyrus RH400 is the world’s biggest mining excavator, originally introduced in 1997 by Terex. With weight up to 889 tonnes, this mining excavator has set a production record by excavating around 9,000 tons of earth in one hour. The shovel of this mining excavator is capable to hold up to 94 tons, while its two 16-cylinder engines provide an incredible horsepower of 4,400 at 1,800 rpm.

2. Hitachi EX8000-6 – Introduced in 2012, the Hitachi EX8000-6 is the second largest mining excavator in the world. Featured with two 16-cylinder Cummins diesel engines producing 3,880 horsepower at 1,800 rpm and with weight of up to 811 tonnes, this excavator is a machine for any tough digging task. Equipped with backhoe and shovel attachment, the Hitachi EX8000-6 is one of the most versatile mining excavators.

3. Liebherr R 9800 – Another powerful and big mining machine on our list is the Liebherr R 9800. It was built by the most popular German manufacturer in 2008. Thanks to its terrifying lifting capacity, this massive excavator can easily deal with the most challenging mining tasks. 4. Demag H740 OS – With operating weight of 744 tones, Demag H7740 OS is surely one of the largest mining excavators on the market. It was produced in 1999 for works with abrasive oil sands in Canada. This 744-tonnes-heavy excavator is a front-shovel type that has a wide “car” body. The loading capacity of the shovel is 40m³. Like all previous mining excavators, Demag H740 OS is also powered by two 16-cylinder diesel engines with 4,000 horsepower at 1,800 rpm.

5. Komatsu PC8000-6 – The last one in the category world’s biggest mining excavators is the 710-tonne Komatsu PC8000-6. Available with shovel and backhoe attachments, this mining excavator is used for various mining tasks. Powered by two 16-cylinder Komatsu diesel engines, Komatsu PC8000-6 provides 4,020 horsepower at 1800 rpm, which is more than enough for efficient and powerful performance.
