How to Make Your Hallway as Chic as the Rest of Your Home
Being usually small and narrow, the hallway is often neglected when people so carefully design and decorate their homes. It’s probably the small number of elements that are used for this space, that is so deceiving. But, despite being small and narrow, designing the hallway can easily be (and should be) the most important design/decor move you will make. To clear your confusion: the hallway is the first room, sort to say, your guests enter. And if you’re the type that likes to make an impression as a host/hostess, you want the welcoming ambiance to your home to be spotless and in complete harmony with the rest of the home.
If you still haven’t designed your hallway, or are looking to completely redesign it, start with researching the furniture elements and the decorations you’ll need. For instance, look through the vast offer of entrance tables and see if you will benefit more from a longer console table or maybe from something small and round. Do you like drawers underneath or just shelves? Next, think about how will you decorate it: will it support the use of strong colours, or maybe it needs to be brightened to kill the feeling of claustrophobia? And finally, don’t forget the decorations – they give your space a special imprint. Let’s see a few combinations you can make to create a welcoming, stylish hallway.
The entry table is a “says it all” type of furniture piece
There really aren’t much furniture elements in a hallway. The general choice would consist of picking one of the many styles of entrance tables, a suitable mirror and a basket for umbrellas, which isn’t exactly necessary. From all these, the entrance table is the largest, and as such it would work as a strong hint to how the rest of the home might look like. Which is why you want to choose something cool, fancy and chic.
If your home style is vintage/industrial, go with a vintage entrance table. You can find these in the offers of vintage furniture online stores, flea markets or even in thrift shops. If you want to refresh it, you can easily remodel it: brush the wood and re-paint it. If your hallway is small and painted light, choose a screaming colour to make the table pop-out. Something like navy blue, or red for example. If the hallway ambiance is dark, then go with a contrasting light nuance for the table, or just leave it in its natural look. Whatever option you choose, have in mind that the way guests will perceive the entrance table will affect their opinion on the rest of the home.
Don’t put too much strain on the mirror
Choosing the right mirror should be easy once you choose the table. If you went with a medium sized vintage table with no drawer cabinet underneath, you’d benefit from a nice rectangular mirror in the same style: with a wooden frame painted in a nuance slightly lighter that the one of the table. A combo like this one shows you want your furniture pieces to work together in creating an ambiance. If, on the other hand, you went with something more on the industrial side, like a simple console table with metal legs, then a big, round mirror with a metal frame hanged with a metal chain would be perfect. Bottom line, keep the only two pieces of furniture in the same style family, don’t push it too much.
Decorate the small hallway corner
The entrance table serves for you to put your keys within reach every time you come home. And just because its purpose is so small and simple, the looks of it should be simple too. Get a vase, something that will complement the walls in colour, or the table itself, and fill it with flowers. You can even make a DIY project with jars. Choose colourful flowers only if the walls and the rug are monocoloured, so the flowers can break the monotony. If there are too much dark colours present, like grey and black nuances, go with something entirely green, like a decorative bamboo arrangement, or something similar, in a completely translucent vase. It would work wonderfully with the entire furniture colour scheme.
