Dreamy Design: Tell a Floral Story with a Wallpaper
In the never-ending, restless pursuit of ways to make our homes more appealing to the eye, more playful and stylish, we often forget about the easiest of them: playing with the walls. As the largest style element of a room, walls are a blank canvas on which art can easily be painted. And while the idea of having a Picasso paint you so marvel on your living room walls is very, very attractive, it’s impossible. At least for us, mere mortals. However, an option close to an artistic expression of beauty is a floral wallpaper. Why floral you ask? Because flowers in all their forms, colours and divine appearance are among the most commonly painted artistic objects ever, and of course, because spring is coming and it would be such a shame if we didn’t do everything to feel it entirely.
Although a floral wallpaper is a beautiful idea, it’s a tricky one. Patterns and motives that include or entirely rely on flowers should be used very carefully in interior design purposes because of their massiveness, bulkiness and the crowd they can do to a room with many elements and colours in it. So, I’ve selected three scenarios in which something like a fancy floral wallpaper would be a wonderful addition to the design pattern.
Dressing up an accent wall
Making an accent wall in a room with all white walls is a great idea to add a dose of spring freshness to a room. Take the living room; it has furniture pieces, a TV unit, all the decorations in the form of picture frames, clocks, candles and similar stuff. Covering all 4 walls in bold colours or even adding wallpapers will cause you such a headache every time you enter the room that you’ll start hating it. Instead, choose the wall facing the TV. That’s usually the wall that has the largest sofa backed against it. That would be your accent wall and according to the dominating colours of the rest of the elements, you’d choose the wallpaper pattern. Voilà – a whole new room look!
A gentle touch to the bedroom
The bedroom is a place of sanctity, your personal oasis of calmness, tranquillity and pampering, and as such it should not be covered in screaming colours and turned into a museum for stuff that belong on an exhibiting shelf. For that purpose, turn to the palette of pastels; pastels are soft and gentle colours that don’t differ much from your ever-loving white. However, they do give a certain charm and style direction. A nice pastel background with small flowers in a colour that complies with the rest of your furniture and bedding would be perfect.
Play with your bathroom
The bathroom is like a jewellery box: closed, windowless and dark. You want to break that darkness, which means using a lot of colours would actually do you good here. Plus, the space is small and filled with elements mainly in white colour, so you really can’t go that wrong. And while the bathroom offers a number of possibilities for the walls, I’d still suggest you don’t go too far; keep to the pastels and the idea of cleanness in the bathroom. Just like the bedroom, the bathroom is also a space of great importance for nurturing your soul and body.
If you were looking for a helpful way to make a refreshing move to welcome this spring, I hope I sparkled some of your imagination with my suggestions. Here’s a helpful tip: if you think shops have a very small and limited offer of wallpapers, try the Internet. Online retailers offer a much bigger choice allowing you to take your time considering and eventually have your purchase delivered to your door.
