A Spirit Level

The spirit level is another essential tool designed for checking if the surface is horizontal or vertical. It is incompletely filled with a liquid (alcohol or colored spirit) and it leaves a bubble in the tube. There are many types of spirit levels, but the bricklayers use the one specially designed for a pack of bricklaying tools and equipment. It is a small spirit level which is good for leveling in general, but bricklayers sometimes use a larger level for certain task, such as building corners. Keep in mind that the quality of spirit level is very important, because the cheaper models are not designed by the same standard.
