Cyclocross Bicycles: One Bicycle to Rule Them All
Adventure bikes have quickly grown in popularity in recent years. I know a lot of people who have recently picked biking as their go-to means of transport, as well as many people who have started to do some off-road biking as their main hobby. Lots of friends on Facebook frequently update their statuses with applications that show their most recent rides – how much km they rode, where their destination was, how much time it took, etc.
It wasn’t long before I jumped on the bike hype train. But as I didn’t know much about the type of bikes that are fit for off-road biking, I conducted a small research to see what will fit me best so that I could decide the type of bike I want to buy, because you know, bikes can be rather expensive. And that’s how I came across cyclocross bicycles.
Cyclocross bicycles are the true kings in off-road biking. They’re designed for long-distance comfort and are designed to excel in both on-road and off-road biking, whether it’s a forest, dirt track or a gravel. Their versatility, adaptability and ruggedness makes them great for commuting, ideal for light touring and great at winter training. Simply put, cyclocross bicycles are the best all-rounders there are when it comes to types of bikes. However, there are a few things you should look for when buying a cyclocross bike.
For starters, these models are meant to endure long rides. They’re designed with long wheelbases, which allows them to be stable on unpredictable surfaces and roads, while providing comfort over long distances. Their geometry is more “relaxed” than the conventional race bikes, the head tube is often taller and the head angle slacker as well. Additionally, all of them feature disc brakes which allows the frame to accommodate bigger tyres. Disc brakes also include more stopping power, which offers more confidence and stability during off-road riding.
Depending on the type of terrain you will most often ride, you should look for features that complement that type of riding. Nothing can stop you from putting lighter tyres if you want to be faster on the road, for example. And while this type of bikes is a relatively new breed, they have quickly risen to the top of the food chain thanks to their versatility and adaptability. So, if you’re unsure of what riding you are going to do most but want to purchase a bike for every occasion, you can’t go wrong with Cyclocross models!
