What Causes Snoring

On average every third person snores. Some people snore occasionally without any problems (except for irritating others around them), while snoring for others can be a major sleeping issue which can lead to serious health problems. If snoring happens repeatedly, it can affect the quality and the quantity of the sleep during the night. Insufficient sleep during the night contributes to fatigue and lack of energy during the day. In order to better understand the dangers snoring pose and how to best treat it, we need to identify the main reasons which cause people to snore, and why so many people are affected by this serious problem.
There are many reasons behind snoring. Like any other sound, the snoring is caused by certain vibrations. When talking, the muscles in our mouth vibrate and create sound. The same happens when we breathe. When we sleep, the air which goes in our lungs, if it cannot travel freely, causes the muscles and tissues in the nose and throat to vibrate, creating the annoying snoring sound. People who snore often have so-called floppy tissues which vibrate more. If the snoring is very loud and chronic, it is usually related to some sleeping disorders such as the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This happens when the airway passage is very narrowed, either by a poor sleeping position or other inner anomalies of the tissues in the throat. Here are some of the most common reasons that cause people to snore.
Nasal problems – Some people snore only during allergy season, or when they have some nose infection. Nose deformities can also cause snoring, because air passages are blocked the inhalation process is difficult.
Relaxed muscles – The muscles in the throat and the tongue muscles sometime can be too relaxed, in this case they are likely to fall back in the throat and block the airway. This can be caused by a deep sleep, eating food before bedtime, using sleeping pills, drinking too much alcohol. The normal aging process also cause the relaxation of these muscles.
Overweight – Being overweight can lead to a bulky throat tissue, which causes snoring.
Sleeping position – Sleeping in unusual positions can block the airways and lead to snoring.
Fortunately, there are many effective treatments that can be used to to reduce or prevent the snoring problem. People who suffer from OSA can use a wide range of CPAP machines from acclaimed manufacturers such as Philips and Devilbis Cpap machines, BMC products, etc. Philips and Devilbis products are one of the most advanced on the market. They feature ergonomic design, high level of comfort, are easy to use and are loaded with advanced technology all to ensure most optimal therapy for OSA patients. Same applies to BMC products. All Cpap machines and other BMC products feature stable air pressure, automatic start and stop, lighted display, low noise and are safe and comfortable. Philips, Devilbis and BMC products are designed for both clinic and home use. These machines are proven to be very effective in treating snoring problem and OSA. However, for those with nose deformities, if BMC products or Devilbis machines cannot help, the best solution is surgical removal of the problem.
