The most commonly seen industrial supplies online and on site are the safety harnesses and the welding helmets. Both of these are essential for the protection of the workers, regardless of the fact whether they’re welding on the ground or working up high. The harnesses are pretty straightforward, so in this article, I’ll focus on the welding helmets, the different types, which type should be your top choice and why.

Generally, there are two types of welding helmets that are mostly used: passive welding helmets and auto darkening welding helmets. In my humble opinion, the darkening welding helmet is better than the passive welding helmet in many aspects and here are the basis for my theory.

Auto darkening welding helmets are reactive to light and are the far more advanced type. They’re the modern type and are much different from the passive welding helmets. They usually have a viewing lens of 3-4 when it’s inactive, which allows the welder to see right through it. When the sensors sense any kind of arc start, it darkens the shade to 10-13, depending on the type of welding or heat received by the sensor in less than a second.

You don’t have to flip the helmet repetitively as it allows you to see right through the viewing lens, enabling you to position your gun or electrode perfectly. Furthermore, the welding work can be done easily without any discomfort, injury risk or neck fatigue. And last but not least, track welding and various short welds can be done easily without any interference.

The only disadvantage auto darkening welding helmets have to passive welding helmets, is that they’re slightly more expensive. Nevertheless, that’s something to be expected given all the features and convenience they have as opposed to passive helmets. Besides that, they need to be handled carefully because the advanced materials and technologies used in their manufacturing may get damaged.

Making these purchases will not only be safer for your employees, but they will also help increase efficiency levels and convenience. This is certainly something that will show professionalism and attract more workers and clients.
