Most of them contain a cocktail of active ingredients such as caffeine, guarana, green tea extract, garcinia cambogia, and ephedrine. In case you didn’t know, guarana is a climbing plant native to the Amazon basin used to enhance athletic performance as well as for weight loss. Garcinia cambogia is a tropical fruit native to Indonesia that, according to some, blocks the body’s ability to produce fat and helps you keep your appetite at bay. Ephedrine is the active component in the herb ephedra. It has been scientifically proven that ephedrine encourages thermogenesis which is why it’s incorporated in most fat burners.

You should know that thermogenic fat burning supplements can have many dangerous side effects. The consumption of thermogenics with dangerous ingredients can lead to acute liver failure (loss of liver function); caffeine overdose (many thermogenic supplements contain high levels of caffeine) the sign of which are increased insomnia, nervousness, jitteriness, and vomiting; chest pain (we have bitter orange to blame for this one); and increased heart rate and blood pressure. All of this suggests that you need to be extremely careful when using thermogenics.

Most experts say that fat burners can help you burn stored fat but you need to keep in mind that they aren’t miracle weight loss pills. The most effective way to shed fat is to exercise hard, eat a healthy and balanced diet, and maybe use thermogenics. Since I’m no expert, I strongly advise you to consult with your doctor before you decide whether to give fat burners a chance or not.
