How Much Does The Roadworthy Certificate Cost?
Need to re-register your vehicle or plan on selling it? If so, you will need to obtain a roadworthy certificate from a licensed mechanic. It is valid for 30 days after the date of issue. The roadworthy certificate was designed to reduce the number of vehicles which are in poor condition and ultimately, increase the safety on the roads. If your vehicle is not in drivable condition and does not meet the standards of roadworthy certificate, you have seven days to do all repairs and return it for a second inspection. If more than 7 days elapse, you will have to perform a comprehensive vehicle inspection.
Pre purchase vehicle inspection is performed every time a vehicle is being sold, either by a private individual or licensed car dealer. This inspection provides full and detailed report of vehicle’s condition. A vehicle pre purchase vehicle inspection can be done at a vehicle inspection center or at a private mechanic shop. The roadworthy certificate usually includes thorough inspection of all major safety items like tires, wheels, windows, seat belts, suspension, steering and braking system, reflectors, lamps and lights, chassis, the vehicle structure and integration, engine, etc. However, roadworthy inspection does not mean that a vehicle is without any wears or other damages, but that it is in drivable condition only. If you want a complete vehicle inspection, you should ask for a further comprehensive inspection.
The roadworthy certificate cost is not fixed. The price varies and depends on the age, type and condition of the vehicle. Aside from this, roadworthy certificate often depends on the LVT – Licensed Vehicle Tester. Every mechanic shop has own roadworthy certificate cost list. But, approximately, the roadworthy certificate cost is between $50 and $200. The inspection itself may cost from $50 to $80, but a car mechanic will surely find something that requires repair. So, when going on a roadworthy vehicle inspection, plan to spend at least 100-plus dollars.
