Servo Motor Drive Applications

A servo motor drive is a small but very efficient piece of technology that is critical for programs or manufacturers that need precise position control. The way a servo motor drive works and is controlled is by a signal which is also better known in the industry as a pulse-width modulator. There are countless industries in which this technology is used and there are also so many ways the manufacturers and companies use servo motor drive applications. Below we will go over some of the ways this fascinating technology is incorporated into everyday use.

One of the biggest and most popular ways that servo motor drive applications are used are in robotics. A popular demonstration of this is a pick and place robot which is a piece of technology that picks up an object from one position and places it in another position. In order for this piece of technology to pick up an object from place A and drop it off to place B, servo motors must be used in the joints of this technology. The angular movement of the joint must be planned out and executed with such precision that’s why servo motors are important in this application and is not possible to do with other motors. Once the data has been inputted, the robot can continue to do its job with precision and accuracy.

Conveyors are another industry that uses servo motors on a regular basis to take an object and pass it from one assembly station to the next. A common place you will see this is the bottle filling process, it will first need to be filled then moved on to be packaged. In order for this to happen precisely the conveyor belts are fitted with servo motors that when the bottle needs to be moved it can stop exactly where it needs to be so whatever liquid can be poured into it and from there it is moved to the next stop. This process is a continuous one, so precision is the key for this industry and servo motor drive technology is important.

Another servo motor application that most people aren’t aware of is that this technology is actually used in cameras. More specifically it is used to auto focus on whatever object it is you wish to capture. The sharpness of the image you capture needs to be checked if the focal length isn’t right then the image can come out fuzzy or blurry. This is where servo motor fitted within the camera comes in handy, it positions the lens in your camera so it is able to capture the sharpest image possible. This wouldn’t be possible without the use of a highly precise servo motor drive which is another example of how this technology is used in our everyday lives.
