The World’s Tallest Crawler Crane

Due to high competition, crane manufacturers are trying to produce a crane that will be specific and unique. The German giant and the biggest crane manufacturer in the world, Liebherr, has put all its efforts to produce the tallest crawler crane in the world – the Liebherr LR13000.

The-Worlds-Tallest-Crawler-Crane

The Liebherr LR13000 is the highest and the most powerful crawler crane in the world. It holds a world record with pulley height of 248 meters. With a main 120 meters long boom and a luffing jib of 126 meters, this crawler crane disposes with an overall length of 246, but like all other Liebherr cranes, it is mounted on specific crawler chassis, so 2 meters are added to its total length.

The Liebherr LR13000 crawler crane is 86 meters higher than the ULM Minster- the crawler crane with the highest church spire in the world (162 meters). We mentioned that it is also the most powerful crawler crane in the world since it has a lifting capacity of 624 tons. The maximum weight of the main boom at its steepest angle is 68 tons.

From all Liebherr cranes, the LR13000 has the longest boom, consisted of a single main boom and a luffing jib. It is equipped with a Liebherr PowerBoom that is composed of the lattice sections of the standard luffing jib and an additional luffing jib that has lattice sections. The PowerBoom gives the LR13000 crawler crane increased load capacity. Also, the LR1300 is capable to hoist about 330 tons at height of 202 meters.

To make the world record, the LR13000 featured a 400-tons slewing platform ballast and a 1500-tons derrick ballast, placed on a special foundation. Also, its 246-meters boom was equipped with many lattice segments, bolted together on the ground. To provide additional guying for the luffing jib, the cables of the LR13000 were installed between the lattice boom and the guy rods. The whole crawler crane with all parts weighed around 700 tons, and the first load that was lifted in the air was a mobile crane of 24 tons.
