Recent studies show that about 10 percent of Australians suffer from chronic back pain, as well as that about 80 to 90 percent have experienced some form of back pain in their lifetime. I’ve worked a desk job for most of my life, and I’ve spent even more time working on a desk while at home. Combining together the long sitting hours with the fact that I suffered from scoliosis from an early age and never really completely recovered from it, sitting becomes painful in a matter of hours. Trying to keep a proper posture is hard and it prevents me from doing my job, as I have to focus really hard on sitting straight.
I don’t have an ergonomic setup neither at work nor at home and frankly, I can’t afford one. The back pain became unbearable in the past few months to the point where I was falling behind at work and got called in by my boss, who told me that I had to sort it out, or else.
The first thing I did when I got home that day, was sit on my computer (ironic) and started looking for solutions. That’s when I came across a forum, which had a few recommendations, and one of them was back braces. I was skeptical at first, but decided – what the hell, I’ve nothing to lose, plus, it’s an affordable solution.
You can find a lot of different models of back braces for sale online and each and every one of them feels differently and comes at a different price. The one I bought was meant for people like myself, who had a hard time keeping a proper posture. It can be worn under the clothing and is practically invisible. It’s made of micro fibre materials which allow the skin to breathe while keeping it dry and cool. Plus, it has fasteners which allow me to adjust it and easily close it.
I messed up on the size, as I am an inexperienced buyer, but that isn’t a big issue thanks to its adjustability. However, when you’re looking for back braces for sale online, make sure to check their sizes and order the right ones to avoid this problem. Reputable sellers will offer an exchange if you purchase the wrong fit, (something which I didn’t know until about a few weeks of using mine) so that’s one thing to keep in mind when shopping – buy from reputable web sites/companies!
All in all, I’m very satisfied with my purchase, and haven’t had any problems at work ever since. I actually think I’m on a good way to get a pay raise in the near future. I used to slightly mind the back brace the first few days, but not I barely notice it. It’s extremely comfortable even though I wear it for like ten hours a day. Plus, I didn’t have to change my work attire to accommodate it. Quite convenient I’d say.
